Three-Time Stanley Cup Champion Logged 47 Points in 50 Games with Detroit in 2023-24

The Detroit Red Wings today signed right wing Patrick Kane to a one-year contract extension.

Kane, 35, joined the Red Wings during the 2023-24 season and ranked among the team leaders with 20 goals (4th), 27 assists (8th), 47 points (T6th), two power play goals (T10th), 15 power play points (7th), three overtime goals (T1st), seven game-winning goals (1st) and 147 shots (6th) in 50 games. The 5-foot-10, 177-pound forward split the 2022-23 campaign between the Chicago Blackhawks and New York Rangers, recording 57 points (21-36-57) and 16 penalty minutes in 73 regular-season games, in addition to six points (1-5-6) in seven postseason contests with the Rangers. Kane played in 16 seasons with the Blackhawks from 2007-23 and ranks among the franchise’s all-time leaders with 1,161 games played (3rd), 446 goals (3rd), 779 assists (2nd), 1,225 points (2nd), 122 power play goals (4th), 398 power play points (3rd), nine overtime goals (T2nd), 67 game-winning goals (4th) and 3,866 shots (3rd). Additionally, Kane places among Chicago’s greatest playoff performers with 136 games played (3rd), 52 goals (4th), 80 assists (3rd), 132 points (3rd), eight power play goals (10th), 41 power play points (7th), five overtime goals (1st), 11 game-winning goals (T1st) and 422 shots (3rd). In total, Kane has racked up 1,284 points (471-813-1,284) and 442 penalty minutes in 1,230 NHL games since 2007-08, trailing only Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin for the most points among active skaters.

Originally selected by Chicago with the first overall pick of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Kane led the franchise to Stanley Cup championships in 2010, 2013 and 2015. Kane ended the Blackhawks’ 49-year title drought when he scored the overtime goal in Game 6 of the 2010 Stanley Cup Final against the Philadelphia Flyers. He was named the recipient of the 2013 Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP after logging 19 points (9-10-19) in 23 postseason games, becoming the first American-born forward to earn the honor. In 2015, Kane led all scorers with 23 points (11-12-23) in 23 playoff appearances to help the Blackhawks clinch a Stanley Cup championship on home ice for the first time since 1938.

In all, Kane has been selected to nine NHL All-Star Games, including six consecutive appearances from 2015-20. He earned a place on the NHL’s First All-Star Team in 2009-10, 2015-16 and 2016-17, and was named to the Second All-Star Team in 2018-19. Following the 2015-16 season, Kane won the Hart Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s most valuable player, the Art Ross Trophy as the league’s top scorer and the Ted Lindsay Award as the most outstanding player as voted on by fellow members of the NHLPA after recording 106 points (46-60-106), a plus-17 rating and 30 penalty minutes in 82 games. Kane later set a career high with 110 points (44-66-110) in 81 games during the 2018-19 campaign. He was honored as the recipient of the Calder Memorial Trophy in 2007-08 as the NHL’s top rookie after leading all freshmen with 72 points (21-51-72) in 82 games. In 2017, Kane was named one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players as part of the league’s year-long Centennial Celebration.

Prior to turning professional, Kane spent the 2006-07 season with the Ontario Hockey League’s London Knights, garnering Rookie of the Year accolades after leading the major junior circuit with 145 points (62-83-145) in 58 regular-season games. Kane also paced all OHL skaters with 31 points (10-21-31) in 16 postseason contests. The Buffalo, N.Y., native skated with the U.S. National Team Development Program from 2004-06 and played for the Honeybaked AAA program in Metro Detroit during the 2003-04 season. On the international stage, Kane has represented Team USA at the IIHF World Championship in 2008, 2018 and 2019, earning a bronze medal and MVP honors at the 2018 tournament after leading all skaters in assists (12) and points (20) in 10 games. He served as an alternate captain for Team USA at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, recording two assists in three appearances. Kane played for his country at back-to-back Winter Olympics in 2010 and 2014, earning a silver medal at the 2010 tournament after logging five points (3-2-5) in six games. Additionally, Kane captured a bronze medal at the 2007 IIHF World Junior Championship, collecting nine points (5-4-9) in seven games. He also won a gold medal at the 2006 IIHF World Under-18 Championship after leading the competition in goals (7) and points (12) in six games.

Red Wings Release 2024 Development Camp Roster

Thirty Recent Draft Picks on Roster, Including Eight from 2024 Draft

The Detroit Red Wings today announced the roster for their 2024 Development Camp, which will be held at the BELFOR Training Center inside Little Caesars Arena starting today, Monday, July 1 to Friday, July 5. The camp roster currently consists of 29 forwards, 14 defensemen and seven goaltenders.

All eight players the Red Wings selected at the 2024 NHL Entry Draft on June 28-29 at Sphere in Las Vegas will be in attendance for Development Camp: forwards Austin Baker, Ondřej Becher, Michael Brandsegg-Nygård, Charlie Forslund and Max Plante, defensemen Fisher Scott and John Whipple, and goaltender Landon Miller. Ten of the team’s selections from the 2023 NHL Entry Draft are slated to attend, along with five players from the 2022 Draft and three from 2021.

Brandsegg-Nygård is one of three first-round picks who will be in attendance after the Red Wings selected him with the 15th overall pick at the 2024 Draft. He spent the majority of the 2023-24 season with Mora IK in Sweden’s second-highest professional league, recording 18 points (8-10-18), a plus-three rating and 19 penalty minutes in 41 regular-season games. The 6-foot-1, 207-pound forward also collected 10 points (4-6-10) and eight penalty minutes in 12 postseason contests, helping Mora IK reach the Semifinals for the second consecutive season. Additionally, Brandsegg-Nygård logged 12 points (5-7-12), a plus-nine rating and 10 penalty minutes in seven games with Mora IK’s under-20 team in Sweden’s top junior league. A native of Oslo, Norway, Brandsegg-Nygård is the first Norwegian-born player to be selected in the first round of an NHL Entry Draft. On the international stage, Brandsegg-Nygård played for Norway at the 2024 IIHF World Championship, recording five points (3-2-5) in seven games en route to being named one of his country’s top three performers. He also represented his country at the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship, logging five points (3-2-5) in five games.

Additionally, both of the Red Wings’ first-round picks from the 2023 NHL Entry Draft will attend Development Camp in Nate Danielson (ninth overall) and Axel Sandin-Pellikka (17th overall). Danielson split the 2023-24 season between the Western Hockey League’s Brandon Wheat Kings and Portland Winterhawks, recording 67 points (24-43-67), a plus-26 rating and 42 penalty minutes in 54 regular-season games. He also tallied 24 points (7-17-24) in 18 postseason contests with the Winterhawks, helping the club reach the WHL Championship Series. Danielson made his professional debut with the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins, skating in two games during the 2024 Calder Cup Playoffs. Sandin-Pellikka signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Red Wings on May 6 after logging 18 points (10-8-18) and 17 penalty

minutes in 39 games with Skellefteå AIK in the Swedish Hockey League. He also collected seven points (2-5-7) in 14 playoff matchups, helping Skelleftea AIK win a SHL championship. Sandin-Pellikka earned a silver medal with Sweden at the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship and was named the tournament’s best defenseman after notching six points (2-4-6) in seven games.

Other prospects slated to attend include Trey Augustine (41st overall in 2023), who posted a 23-9-2 record in his freshman season at Michigan State University (B10) and backstopped Team USA to a gold medal at the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship; Shai Buium (36th overall in 2021), who signed a three-year, entry-level contract with Detroit on April 17 after helping the University of Denver (NCHC) win their second NCAA Division I National Championship in three years; and Jakub Rychlovský, who signed a two-year, entry-level contract with the Red Wings on June 3 after leading Czechia’s top professional league with 26 goals in 2023-24.

The camp will be split into two teams – Team Red and Team White – and will feature daily on-ice instruction and skill development from a team of coaches, led by the Red Wings player development staff. Red Wings Sign Defenseman William Lagesson to One-Year Contract

Blueliner Split 2023-24 Season Between Toronto Maple Leafs and Anaheim Ducks

The Detroit Red Wings today signed defenseman William Lagesson to a one-year contract with an average annual value of $775,000.

Lagesson, 28, split the 2023-24 season between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Anaheim Ducks, recording four assists, a plus-five rating and 19 penalty minutes in 30 games with the Maple Leafs before notching 13 penalty minutes in 10 games with the Ducks. The 6-foot-2, 211-pound defenseman also picked up one assist in five appearances with the American Hockey League’s Toronto Marlies during the 2023-24 campaign. Lagesson played the entire 2022-23 season with the AHL’s Chicago Wolves, logging 32 points (10-22-32), a plus-14 rating and 46 penalty minutes in 65 games. Originally selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the fourth round (91st overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Lagesson has totaled 11 assists, a plus-two rating and 54 penalty minutes in 100 games with the Oilers, Montréal Canadiens, Maple Leafs and Ducks since 2019-20. He has also collected 72 points (21-51-72), a plus-33 rating and 118 penalty minutes in 173 AHL games with the Bakersfield Condors, Wolves and Marlies. Lagesson began the 2020-21 season with HC Vita Hästen and Kristianstads IK in Sweden’s second division, posting 12 points (3-9-12), a plus-six rating and 12 penalty minutes in 14 games. He made his professional debut with Djurgårdens IF in the Swedish Hockey League in 2017-18, registering 13 points (1-12-13), a plus-13 rating and 30 penalty minutes in 49 regular-season games, in addition to one assist in 11 postseason contests.

Prior to turning professional, Lagesson played two seasons at the University of Massachusetts from 2015-17, tallying 15 points (4-11-15) and 54 penalty minutes in 63 games. He spent the 2014-15 campaign with the Dubuque Fighting Saints in the United States Hockey League, picking up 16 points (2-14-16), a plus-18 rating and 79 penalty minutes in 52 regular-season games, along with two points (1-1-2) in eight playoff matchups. A native of Gothenburg, Sweden, Lagesson developed in Frölunda HC’s system before arriving in North America. On the international stage, Lagesson represented his country at back-to-back IIHF World Junior Championships in 2015 and 2016, combining for four points (2-2-4), a plus-eight rating and 12 penalty minutes in 14 games. Red Wings Sign Goaltender Cam Talbot to Two-Year Contract

Two-Time NHL All-Star Has Posted 245-176-42 Record in 486 Games

The Detroit Red Wings today signed goaltender Cam Talbot to a two-year contract with an average annual value of $2.5 million.

Talbot, 36, spent the 2023-24 season with the Los Angeles Kings, posting a 27-20-6 record with a 2.50 goals-against average, a 0.913 save percentage and three shutouts in 54 games. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound netminder represented the Kings at the 2024 NHL All-Star Game, marking his second All-Star berth in three years. Talbot also appeared in three Stanley Cup Playoff games with the Kings. He played the entire 2022-23 season with the Ottawa Senators, logging a 17-14-2 record with a 2.93 goals-against average, a 0.898 save percentage and one shutout in 36 contests. Talbot led all NHL goaltenders with 42 wins in 2016-17 as a member of the Edmonton Oilers. Originally signed by the New York Rangers an undrafted free agent on March 30, 2010, Talbot has compiled a 245-176-42 record with a 2.63 goals-against average, a 0.914 save percentage and 31 shutouts in 486 games with the Rangers, Oilers, Philadelphia Flyers, Calgary Flames, Minnesota Wild, Senators and Kings since 2013-14. Talbot also holds a 54-52-5 record with a 2.68 goals-against average, a 0.914 save percentage and eight shutouts in 116 American Hockey League games with the Connecticut Whale/Hartford Wolf Pack.

Prior to turning professional, Talbot played in 70 games at the University of Alabama in Huntsville from 2007-10, becoming the second player in program history to reach the NHL. As a junior in 2009-10, Talbot was named to the All-College Hockey America Second Team and earned MVP honors at the CHA Tournament after leading the Chargers to a place in the NCAA Tournament. The Caledonia, Ont., native also made 82 appearances with the Hamilton Red Wings in the Ontario Junior Hockey League from 2004-07. On the international stage, Talbot backstopped Team Canada to a gold medal at the 2016 IIHF World Championship, posting a 7-1-0 record with a 1.25 goals-against average, a 0.940 save percentage and four shutouts in eight appearances. He also earned a silver medal with Canada East at the 2006 World Junior A Challenge, showing a 3-1-0 record with a 1.75 goals-against average and a 0.916 save percentage in four contests.

Pair of Michigan Natives Sign Free-Agent Deals with Detroit

The Detroit Red Wings today signed goaltender Jack Campbell to a one-year contract with an average annual value of $775,000 and signed center Sheldon Dries to a two-year, two-way contract.

Campbell, 32, split the 2023-24 season between the Edmonton Oilers and American Hockey League’s Bakersfield Condors. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound goaltender made five appearances with the Oilers during the 2023-24 campaign, while posting an 18-13-1 record with a 2.63 goals-against average, a 0.918 save percentage and three shutouts in 33 games with the Condors. Campbell spent the entire 2022-23 season with the Oilers, showing a 21-9-4 record with a 3.41 goals-against average, an 0.888 save percentage and one shutout in 36 regular-season games, in addition to a 1-0 record with a 1.01 goals-against average and a 0.961 save percentage in four relief appearances during the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Originally selected by the Dallas Stars in the first round (11th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Campbell has logged a 93-52-18 record with a 2.76 goals-against average, a 0.909 save percentage and 10 shutouts in 176 games with the Stars, Toronto Maple Leafs, Los Angeles Kings and Oilers. He has also racked up a 117-82-26 record with a 2.72 goals-against average, a 0.911 save percentage and 17 shutouts in 235 AHL games with the Texas Stars, Ontario Reign and Condors, winning a Calder Cup championship with Texas in 2014.

A native of Port Huron, Mich., Campbell played two seasons in the Ontario Hockey League prior to turning professional, accumulating a 45-29-11 record in 91 appearances between the Windsor Spitfires and Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds from 2010-12. Campbell also spent two seasons with the U.S. National Team Development Program from 2008-10. On the international stage, Campbell has represented Team USA at the IIHF World Championship in 2011 and 2015, earning a bronze medal at the 2015 tournament. He also competed in three straight IIHF World Junior Championships from 2010-12, winning a gold medal in 2010 and a bronze medal in 2011 as the tournament’s best goaltender. Additionally, Campbell was a gold medalist at back-to-back IIHF World Under-18 Championships in 2009 and 2010, garnering MVP honors at the 2010 edition. He also made four appearances with Team USA at the 2009 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

Dries, 30, spent the entire 2023-24 season with the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks and ranked among the team leaders with 29 goals (1st), 23 assists (7th), 52 points (T3rd), a plus-six rating (5th), 45 penalty minutes (6th), six power play goals (T2nd), 16 power play points (3rd), four shorthanded goals (1st), two game-winning goals (T7th) and 167 shots (1st) in 54 games. The 5-foot-9, 180-pound forward also recorded three points (1-2-3) in six postseason contests with Abbotsford. Dries played the majority of the 2022-23 season with the Vancouver Canucks, collecting 17 points (11-6-17) and 29 penalty minutes in 63 games. He also picked up four points (1-3-4) in two appearances with Abbotsford in 2022-23. Originally signed by the AHL’s Texas Stars as a free agent on May 10, 2017, Dries has registered 26 points (16-10-26) and 59 penalty minutes in 122 NHL games with the Colorado Avalanche and Canucks since 2018-19. Dries has also compiled 204 points (113-91-204) and 222 penalty minutes in 274 AHL games with the Stars, Colorado Eagles and Canucks.

A native of Macomb, Mich., Dries played four seasons at Western Michigan University from 2013-17, serving as team captain during his final three seasons. In total, Dries tallied 84 points (44-40-84) and 136 penalty minutes in 148 games with the Broncos, earning a place on the NCHC’s Second All-Star Team in his senior year. Prior to his collegiate career, Dries racked up 87 points (41-46-87) and 235 penalty minutes in 116 games with the United States Hockey League’s Green Bay Gamblers from 2010-13, winning a Clark Cup championship in 2012 under Red Wings Head Coach Derek Lalonde. On the international stage, Dries represented Team USA at the 2012 World Junior A Challenge, logging seven points (1-6-7) and four penalty minutes in four games.

The Detroit Red Wings today re-signed right wing Christian Fischer to a one-year contract with an average annual value of $1.125 million.

Fischer, 27, skated in 79 games with the Red Wings during the 2023-24 campaign, recording 19 points (5-14-19) and 36 penalty minutes. The 6-foot, 208-pound forward spent the 2022-23 season with the Arizona Coyotes, logging 27 points (13-14-27) and 20 penalty minutes in 80 games. In 2022-23, Fischer tallied his most points in a single season since achieving career highs in goals (15), assists (18) and points (33) as a rookie in 2017-18. Originally selected by Arizona in the second round (32nd overall) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, Fischer has accumulated 130 points (61-69-130) and 133 penalty minutes in 477 games with the Coyotes and Red Wings since 2016-17. Additionally, Fischer registered 50 points (22-28-50) and 28 penalty minutes in 63 American Hockey League games with the Springfield Falcons and Tucson Roadrunners from 2015-17, competing at the 2017 AHL All-Star Classic.

Prior to turning professional, Fischer played the 2015-16 season with the Ontario Hockey League’s Windsor Spitfires, racking up 90 points (40-50-90), a plus-35 rating and 34 penalty minutes in 66 games, in addition to three points (1-2-3) in five postseason contests. The Chicago native skated with the U.S. National Team Development Program from 2013-15, scoring 106 points (50-56-106) and 45 penalty minutes in 120 games. On the international stage, Fischer won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2015 IIHF World Under-18 Championship, collecting eight points (1-7-8) and a plus-two rating in seven games. The Detroit Red Wings today signed defenseman Erik Gustafsson to a two-year contract with an average annual value of $2 million.

Gustafsson, 32, spent the 2023-24 season with the New York Rangers, logging 31 points (6-25-31), a plus-three rating and 35 penalty minutes in 76 regular-season games. The 6-foot-1, 189-pound defenseman also recorded three assists and eight penalty minutes in 16 postseason contests, helping the Rangers reach the Eastern Conference Final for the second time in three years. Gustafsson split the 2022-23 season between the Washington Capitals and Toronto Maple Leafs, tallying 38 points (7-31-38), a plus-nine rating and 21 penalty minutes in 61 games with the Capitals before adding four assists in nine regular-season appearances with the Maple Leafs. Originally selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the fourth round (93rd overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Gustafsson has registered 222 points (45-177-222) and 143 penalty minutes in 455 games with the Chicago Blackhawks, Calgary Flames, Philadelphia Flyers, Montréal Canadiens, Capitals, Maple Leafs and Rangers, playing in the Stanley Cup Final with the Canadiens in 2021. He also notched 58 points (11-47-58) and 96 penalty minutes in 120 games with the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs from 2015-18, competing in the 2018 AHL All-Star Classic.

A native of Nynäshamn, Sweden, Gustafsson spent two seasons with Frölunda HC in the Swedish Hockey League from 2013-15, collecting 49 points (6-43-49) and 38 penalty minutes in 105 games. He also played parts of two seasons with Djurgårdens IF from 2011-13, showing 30 points (10-20-30) and 68 penalty minutes in 90 games. Gustafsson developed in Djurgårdens IF’s system, accumulating 45 points (5-40-45) and 144 penalty minutes in 83 games with their under-20 squad, along with 30 points (9-21-30) and 76 penalty minutes in 60 games at the under-18 level. On the international stage, Gustafsson represented Sweden at the 2022 IIHF World Championship, finishing with seven assists, a plus-three rating and four penalty minutes in eight games. He also picked up four points (2-2-4), a plus-five rating and two penalty minutes in eight appearances at the 2019 IIHF World Championship. Gustafsson won a gold medal with Sweden at the 2018 IIHF World Championship, tallying one assist, a plus-three rating and two penalty minutes in six contests. The Detroit Red Wings today signed center Joe Snively to a one-year, two-way contract.

Snively, 28, skated in three games with the Washington Capitals during the 2023-24 season. The 5-foot-9, 176-pound forward spent the majority of the 2023-24 campaign with the American Hockey League’s Hershey Bears and ranked among the team leaders with 14 goals (6th), 45 assists (1st), 59 points (1st), two power play goals (T7th), 21 power play points (T1st) and one overtime goal (T2nd) in 69 games. Snively also tallied 18 points (4-14-18) and 26 penalty minutes in 20 postseason contests with the Bears, helping the club win their second straight Calder Cup championship. He split the 2022-23 season between Washington and Hershey, logging four points (2-2-4) in 11 games with the Capitals, in addition to 27 points (9-18-27) and six penalty minutes in 32 games with the Bears. Snively also earned a Calder Cup title with Hershey in 2023, recording 15 points (2-13-15) in 20 playoff matchups. Originally signed by Washington as an undrafted free agent on March 18, 2019, Snively has totaled 11 points (6-5-11), a plus-five rating and two penalty minutes in 27 games with the Capitals since 2021-22. He has also racked up 172 points (58-114-172), a plus-57 rating and 72 penalty minutes in 220 AHL games with the Bears.

Prior to turning professional, Snively played four seasons at Yale University from 2015-19, where he compiled 139 points (58-81-139), a plus-18 rating and 81 penalty minutes in 129 games. Snively garnered All-Ivy League First-Team honors as a junior and a senior, and was named ECAC Rookie of the Year after registering 28 points (10-18-28), a plus-five rating and 12 penalty minutes in 32 games as a freshman in 2015-16. Snively also spent three seasons with the Sioux City Musketeers in the United States Hockey League from 2012-15, showing 125 points (50-75-125), a plus-14 rating and 81 penalty minutes in 159 games. The Herndon, Va., native won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2014 World Junior A Challenge, finishing with three points (2-1-3) and six penalty minutes in four games. St. Clair Native and University of Michigan Product Has Skated in 400 NHL Games Since 2016-17

The Detroit Red Wings today signed center Tyler Motte to a one-year contract with an average annual value of $800,000.

Motte, 29, spent the 2023-24 season with the Tampa Bay Lightning, recording nine points (6-3-9) and 28 penalty minutes in 69 regular-season games. The 5-foot-10, 194-pound forward also netted one goal in five postseason games with the Lightning. Motte split the 2022-23 campaign between the Ottawa Senators and New York Rangers, logging nine points (3-6-9) and four penalty minutes in 38 games with the Senators before adding 10 points (5-5-10) and two penalty minutes in 24 regular-season contests with the Rangers. Originally selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the fourth round (121st overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, Motte has registered 90 points (49-41-90) and 110 penalty minutes in 400 games with the Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Vancouver Canucks, Rangers, Senators and Lightning since 2016-17. He also collected 32 points (21-11-32) and 49 penalty minutes in 67 American Hockey League games with the Rockford IceHogs, Cleveland Monsters and Utica Comets.

A native of St. Clair, Mich., Motte played three seasons at the University of Michigan from 2013-16, where he skated alongside Red Wings forwards J.T. Compher, Andrew Copp and Dylan Larkin. As a junior, Motte earned First Team All-American honors after racking up 56 points (32-24-56), a plus-28 rating and 36 penalty minutes in 38 games, helping the Wolverines earn a Big Ten Tournament championship. In total, Motte accumulated 105 points (50-55-105), a plus-38 rating and 72 penalty minutes in 107 games with the Wolverines. Motte also spent two seasons with the U.S. National Team Development Program from 2011-13. On the international stage, Motte represented Team USA at the 2016 IIHF World Championship, notching three points (1-2-3) in 10 games. He also competed at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship, picking up one assist in five appearances. Motte captured a silver medal at the 2013 World Under-18 Championship with seven points (5-2-7) in seven games, and also won silver at the 2012 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
