“Skubal Snack Burger” Designed by Tarik to be Featured at Comerica Park During MLB Players’ Weekend, August 16-17

August 14, 2024

When fans enter Comerica Park for this weekend’s games against the New York Yankees, they’ll want to bring their appetite for good food and an even better cause.

As part of MLB Players’ Weekend, when fans across baseball celebrate MLB players’ interests, backstories and charitable passions, the Tigers will spotlight an ideal post-game meal of the team’s ace, Tarik Skubal. One of the ballpark’s concession stands will be re-branded “Skubal’s Snacks” after the All-Star’s nickname, “Skoob” – a parallel from the television show Scooby-Doo. Skubal’s Snacks will feature a burger designed by Tarik himself.

The Skubal Snack Burger features bacon, pepper jack cheese and light mayonnaise, and is topped off with a fried egg. The Tigers will donate a portion of proceeds from sales of the burger to Alternative for Girls, an organization that Tarik and his wife, Jessica, have supported throughout his tenure with the Tigers. Alternative For Girls helps girls and young women experiencing homelessness and other risks avoid violence, early pregnancy, and exploitation, and helps them to explore and access the support, resources, and opportunities necessary to be safe, to grow strong, and to make positive choices for their lives.

Skubal’s Snacks will be located at the Comerica Big Cat Court, located near the carousel at Comerica Park, available to fans during Friday and Saturday’s games.

Detroit will host the Yankees for two games at Comerica Park (Friday, 6:40 p.m. and Saturday, 1:10 p.m.) before wrapping up the three-game series on Sunday in Williamsport, PA, in the Little League Classic.

Throughout MLB Players’ Weekend, several Tigers will utilize customized, specially designed bats and cleats, displaying all kinds of personality. During Players’ Weekend, all Tigers will wear New Era caps featuring their uniform number on the side panel in a youthful design.

Ilitch Companies’ 2024 Cass Tech Interns Gain Experience, Professional Skills

August 6, 2024

Professional internships can shape a student’s future career by providing work experience beyond what can be taught in a classroom, but they are not often available to high school students. Since 2015, Ilitch Companies have partnered with Detroit Public School’s Cass Technical High School on a paid internship program for juniors and seniors, with about 150 students participating to date.

The internship program provides Cass Tech students with experience at Ilitch Sports + Entertainment, the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings, Little Caesars and Ilitch Companies. The students work on business projects throughout the summer in areas including event management, marketing, public relations, information technology, finance and human resources.

This summer, 18 students participated in the eight-week internship program, which includes enrichment opportunities such as meetings with company executives, professional workshops, networking opportunities, outings and tours.

“They know that we’re still high school students. They want us to get experience, and they also want us to have the tools we need for when we actually get into a career,” said Kaitlin Cobb, a Cass Tech senior who is interning in Fox Theatre Operations. “So they’re helping with stuff to get us there, like speaking to people who are in leadership positions so we can learn about their experience and feel inspired by them. Or help with our resumes and LinkedIn, so that we can have a professional one that we can use when we leave. They are preparing us to not just do well this summer, but also after college and post-high school.”

The students played an important part in the continued growth of our community, as they worked and learned alongside Ilitch organization professionals who are committed to Detroit, its neighborhoods and its people.

“At the heart of the Ilitch Companies, we want to make as much of a difference in our community as we can,” said Nicole Nimeth, Human Resources Business Partner for Ilitch Sports + Entertainment. “I think this program can be a real gateway for the students to get professional experience and be successful. They can take that experience with them into whatever they choose to do.”

The interns were recently recognized before a Detroit Tigers game during an on-field ceremony at Comerica Park, where they also attended batting practice and toured the ballpark.

The Ilitch organization has a long-standing partnership with Detroit Public Schools Community District, including the annual Evening of Fine Arts, and the internship program. Learn more about the Cass Tech High School internship program and this year’s talented participants in this video:

Ilitch Sports + Entertainment, Detroit Tigers Announce Top-Tier Premium Seating Experiences at Comerica Park, Renderings for Home Plate Club

August 5, 2024

With 2025 marking Comerica Park’s 25th season hosting Major League Baseball games, Ilitch Sports + Entertainment and the Detroit Tigers announced some of the most significant upgrades to the fan experience since the ballpark opened. This continues a multi-year stretch of projects to constantly, thoughtfully, and impactfully provide a first-class fan and player experience. Here is a presentation link with more information.

Two of those enhancement projects for 2025 were recently unveiled, centering around premium seating at Comerica Park. Construction and work on each of the projects will begin this year and will be completed on a rolling basis into next season. More detail will be shared on each as specifics are finalized and construction begins.

First on this list is the exclusive Home Plate Club, a new space built beneath the stands featuring a high-end, all-inclusive experience with direct access from the dedicated seats with an immersive perspective closest to the action. Upgraded seating behind home plate will be completed for the home opener next season, while the full club experience will be available during the season as the project is completed.

Another feature fans will enjoy are all-new Loge Boxes, located in the lower level of Comerica Park, between the bases. With access to the Home Plate Club and all the same benefits, these boxes offer fans a semi-private luxury seating and game-viewing experience that elevates them above the action. A privacy wall partially encloses these seats, providing additional comfort directly in front of each chair.

“The announcement of our Home Plate Club and Loge Boxes showcases our organization’s ongoing commitment to providing a first-class fan and player experience,” said Ryan Gustafson, President and CEO, Ilitch Sports + Entertainment. “Our goal is to continue investing and creating a variety of best-in-class experiences for all fans.  Adding exclusive, premium seating options is feedback we’ve heard consistently, and we are thrilled to unveil these exciting upgrades during the 2025 season.”

As part of construction surrounding the Home Plate Club, the Tigers are also upgrading the visitors weight room and other clubhouse spaces as well as the umpire lounge.

Much like recent projects undertaken by the organization, including the renovation and expansion of the home clubhouse at Comerica Park, the Home Plate Club is made possible by both reorganizing existing and creating new back-of-house areas beneath the seating bowl at the ballpark. This innovative approach has been taken to catalyze expanding the team’s operations for both player- and fan-facing areas.

These new premium seating spaces join several other projects completed in recent years, and additional ones that are on the horizon. Those include the renovation of the Tigers home clubhouse at Comerica Park; purchase and renovation of a new team plane; installation of state-of-the art LED field lighting, stadium sound system, and scoreboard; building new player development facilities in Lakeland; building of a new player academy in the Dominican Republic; and more.

Olympia Development Announces the First of Three Buildings in a Recently Issued Co-Development Program

July 30, 2024

Olympia Development of Michigan (ODM), has selected 475 Peterboro Street as the first of the three projects to be offered to Detroit-based developers in The District Detroit’s recently announced Co-Development Program.

475 Peterboro Street was designed in the Beaux-Arts style by the architectural firm Pollmar & Ropes and opened in 1914 as The Woodstock Apartments. The building is 47,500 square feet and originally had 71 apartments. The property is located between Cass Avenue and 2nd Avenue across from Detroit Shipping Company.

The Co-Developer Program is designed to create opportunities for Detroit-based, Detroit-headquartered, or Detroit resident-owned development companies. Qualified companies will have the opportunity to pursue the development of up to three properties.  ODM received interest from over 35 developers in 475 Peterboro and invitations have been extended to 10 of those developers to participate in the next phase of the Request for Proposal (RFP) process.

“The Co-Developer partnership is the highest and best reflection of who we want to be as Detroit-based developers. To work with local developers and trades to restore historic buildings into new housing in the city truly defines our purpose and reminds us of what we can do together,” said Keith Bradford, President of Olympia Development of Michigan and The District Detroit. “Detroit is full of opportunities, and we are proud to be a part of this city’s bright future.”

As part of The District Detroit Community Benefits Agreement (CBA), ODM agreed to lead an additional Co-Development Program.  ODM has other Co-Developer partnerships underway at The Residences @ 150 Bagley (formally known as The United Artist Building), 64 Edmund Place and Henry Street Apartments.

“We are proud of The District Detroit’s Co-Development Program and the opportunity to work with more Detroit based developers,” said Rian English Barnhill, Vice President of Government and Community Affairs at Olympia Development of Michigan. “It is important to us that we work with community-minded partners who are committed to Detroit.  This will benefit the community and further advance our city.”

The 10 invited bidders for 475 Peterboro Street have a deadline of September 30, 2024 to respond to the RFP.

The District Detroit’s CBA Co-Development Program consists of two other properties: 81 W. Columbia Street and 44 & 48 W. Adams.  Invitations will be extended to developers interested in the next selected site by October 31, 2024. More information on the Co-Development Program can be found at TheDistrictDetroitOC.com/RFP.
