Detroit Tigers Unveil First-Of-Its-Kind Climate-Controlled Seat as Part of New Home Plate Club Experience at Comerica Park
December 3, 2024
The Detroit Tigers today unveiled details surrounding the innovative, premium comfort seats to be located behind home plate for fans with tickets in Home Plate Club sections at Comerica Park.
These cutting-edge seats, specially designed for Ilitch Sports + Entertainment by Figueras in Barcelona, Spain, feature quick-touch heating and cooling climate control technology developed by Promethient in Traverse City, Michigan, allowing fans to experience enhanced comfortability while enjoying games and events at Comerica Park all year long.
The seats utilize THERMAVANCETM technology which pairs a thermoelectric device with graphene to efficiently cool or heat seat occupants, even in outdoor environments exposed to the elements. The upholstery is a marine-grade vinyl with special coating that reduces UV absorption, making the seat surface cooler on sunny days.
Home Plate Club seats, situated directly behind home plate for the best baseball vantage point in the ballpark, measure 23 inches from center of armrest to center of armrest, providing four more inches of pitch (21 percent more space) than standard ballpark seats. Combining innovation and functionality, the new seats also feature a high back and head rest, wider armrests with soft pads for additional comfort, cup holders, and up to one foot of additional legroom.
“From Opening Day 2025, fans will have maximum comfort enjoying games from seats with innovative heating and cooling features unprecedented in professional sports,” said Ryan Gustafson, President and CEO of Ilitch Sports + Entertainment. “As we move into the heart of construction for the Home Plate Club, we’re curating an authentic Detroit atmosphere and integrating innovative elements to give it a unique experience. We will continue sharing the exciting new aspects that will showcase it as one of the best premium clubs in the country.”
In addition to premium seating, the Home Plate Club features an exclusive space beneath the stands between the two clubhouses, with direct access to the new seats. Providing an unparalleled experience from the door to the diamond, Home Plate Club memberships include VIP parking, private entry and restrooms, all-inclusive food and beverage, in-seat service, curated amenities and more.
The Tigers initially unveiled the new Home Plate Club last June in advance of the team’s historic run to the 2024 Postseason.
The renovations are part of the organization’s ongoing commitment to provide a best-in-class experience for all fans and players at Comerica Park. The Tigers have listened to fan feedback and are in the process of a multi-year investment in a variety of fan-friendly amenities, including the second-largest videoboard in MLB, enhanced ballpark sound systems, new concourse TVs and more.
Home Plate Club construction is currently underway, with seating set for completion before 2025 Opening Day at Comerica Park on April 4. The club space will be completed during the season.
Several more Home Plate Club announcements will be made in the coming months. For more information, visit DetroitTigers.com/HomePlateClub.
In addition to premium seating, the Home Plate Club features an exclusive space beneath the stands between the two clubhouses, with direct access to the new seats—providing an unparalleled experience from the door to the diamond. See below for construction progress as of February 2025.
Detroit Red Wings Celebrate Pavel Datsyuk
November 22, 2024
The Hockey Hall of Fame’s newest inductee and 14-year member of the Detroit Red Wings, Pavel Datsyuk, was honored by the team at Little Caesars Arena on Thursday, Nov. 21 prior to and during the Red Wings game against the New York Islanders.
Datsyuk, known as the “Magic Man”, played 14 seasons in the NHL, from 2001 - 2016, all with the Red Wings. His magnificent career was highlighted by two Stanley Cup championships (2002, 2008) and several individual honors, including four consecutive Lady Byng Trophies for sportsmanship and three straight Selke Trophies as the league's top defensive forward. He amassed 918 points (314 goals, 604 assists) in 953 regular-season games and earned a reputation as one of the most complete players in NHL history. Datsyuk was a four-time NHL All-Star, named one of the NHL’s 100 Greatest Players and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as part of the 2024 induction class on November 11 in Toronto.
Tarik Skubal Wins American League Cy Young Award
November 21, 2024
From Major League Baseball:
Braves veteran Chris Sale can now add “Cy Young winner” to his potential Hall of Fame résumé and Tigers ace Tarik Skubal - who was voted for the honor unanimously - can do the same to his promising profile after the two were named the winners of the National League and American League Cy Young Awards presented by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America on Wednesday night on MLB Network.
This was an expected result for the two left-handed hurlers, each of whom claimed the pitching Triple Crown by leading his league in wins, ERA and strikeouts. This was only the fourth time in history – and the first since 2011 (Tigers’ Justin Verlander and Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw) – that both leagues had a pitching Triple Crown winner in the same season.
The Cy Young honor is a career first for Sale, who finished in the top six of the AL voting every year from 2012 through 2018 with the White Sox and Red Sox. After several injury-plagued years in Boston, Sale came to the Braves in a trade last winter and instantly reclaimed his elite status by going 18-3 (setting a career high in wins) with an MLB-best 2.38 ERA and 174 ERA+ and an NL-best 225 strikeouts in his 177 2/3 innings. He was an All-Star for the eighth time in his career and the first time since 2018, and an important linchpin for an Atlanta rotation that suffered the early-season loss of ace Spencer Strider to Tommy John surgery.
Sale had already been named NL Comeback Player of the Year at the All-MLB Awards Show last week.
While the 35-year-old Sale was adding some late-career credence to his Cooperstown case, Skubal was – much like Sale in the 2010s – up in the AL Central proving himself a top-of-the-rotation force to be reckoned with. The result is that Skubal celebrated his 28th birthday Wednesday with the game’s top pitching prize.
Skubal had demonstrated his potential in the past, but flexor tendon surgery prematurely ended his 2022 season and delayed the start of his 2023 campaign. Fully healthy in 2024, he made the leap, going 18-4 with an AL-best 2.39 ERA and 170 ERA+ and an MLB-best 228 strikeouts in his 192 innings. The ERA was the lowest by a qualified Detroit starter since Mark Fidrych’s rookie season of 1976 (2.34). He held opponents to two runs or fewer in 24 of his 31 starts.
On a Tigers team that traded Jack Flaherty midseason, Skubal was a constant atop a thin rotation. He was the reason manager A.J. Hinch was able to aggressively deploy his bullpen the other days of the week as Detroit surged to an unlikely postseason berth in the second half. And though it didn’t factor into the voting, Skubal became a true household name in October when he shut down the Astros in Game 1 of the AL Wild Card Series, which the Tigers would go on to sweep.
Sale is the Braves’ first Cy Young winner since Tom Glavine in 1998 and the eighth overall. Skubal is the Tigers’ first winner since Max Scherzer in 2013 and their sixth overall.

Colt Keith Named Rookie of The Year by Detroit Sports Media Association
November 18, 2024
Following a standout rookie season in 2024, Detroit Tigers infielder Colt Keith has been voted Tigers Rookie of the Year by the Detroit Sports Media Association.
Keith, the club’s fifth round selection in the 2020 MLB Draft, played an everyday role in helping propel the Tigers back to the postseason for the first time since 2014. He finished the season slashing .260/.309/.380 with a team-leading 35 multi-hit games, which was tied for the most among American League rookies. Keith totaled 15 doubles, four triples, 13 home runs and 61 RBI across 148 games in 2024.
His overall numbers are even more impressive when taking into account a tough start to his rookie campaign, posting a .387 OPS over 99 plate appearances in March and April. From May 8 through the end of the regular season, he ranked fourth among Major League rookies (min. 200 plate appearances) with a .284 batting average, 118 hits, and 178 total bases, while he was fifth with 53 RBI.
During the season he was also voted American League Rookie of the Month for July. In 25 games played during the month, he hit .322/.404/.644 with a double, three triples, seven home runs, and 17 RBI. Among all American League players over that span, he ranked tied for seventh in home runs, ninth in total bases (56), and 10th in slugging percentage.
Keith became Detroit's second rookie since 1988 to log 130-or-more hits, 30-or-more extra-base hits and 60-or-more RBI in a season, joining Nick Castellanos in 2014. His 1.8 fWAR in 2024 ranked as the fifth-most in a season by a Tigers rookie since 2000.
The Detroit Sports Media Association has named a Tigers Rookie of the Year each season dating back to 1969, with Tyler Holton earning the honor in 2023.
