Ilitch Companies’ colleagues recently volunteered at the Capuchin Service Center in Detroit to give back to community members who need it most. Volunteers stocked shelves in the Shoppers’ Choice food pantry, sorted donated clothing and household items, and organized the clothing store.
Capuchin has been a cornerstone in the Detroit community for decades. “We started with serving soup out of the back of a monastery and now we have two soup kitchens serving about a thousand meals a day,” said Br. Fred Cabras, Director of Social Services with Capuchin. “Here at the service center we get about 175 families that are coming through every day. We provide, food and clothing for all of our guests, Monday through Friday.”
For many volunteers, the experience was both eye-opening and deeply meaningful. Beyond completing tasks, the group had the opportunity to engage directly with community members offering assistance and conversation. These moments reinforced the power of service and the importance of showing up for neighbors in tangible ways.
Communications Coordinator for the Detroit Red Wings, William Gregory, adds “It’s been really meaningful. I can already see the people and how much they need these things in there and how happy they are to get them. We're a large organization, and the amount of people and the hours that we can give to services like these, is it's really important to do, especially in the city we represent.”
This volunteer initiative reflects Ilitch Companies’ ongoing commitment to community impact. By supporting trusted community partners, the company reinforces its dedication to making a meaningful contribution beyond the workplace.
