Detroit Tigers Partner with Detroit-Based Small Businesses at Comerica Park
April 12, 2023
Expanding on last season’s efforts to provide opportunity to Detroit-based Black-owned restaurants at both Comerica Park and Little Caesars Arena, Comerica Park will welcome back four local restauranteurs for the 2023-24 Detroit Tigers season, in addition to several new ones.
Yum Village, Bert’s Marketplace, Breadless and The Lobster Food Truck all debuted during either last year’s Tigers or Red Wings seasons. The initiative, aimed at increasing economic inclusion for Detroiters, proved popular not only with fans, but also with the restaurant owners themselves.
“Being in the ballpark is such a great experience and we’ve had so much support from people,” said Jae Dearing, CEO of Bert’s Marketplace, located in Eastern Market. “Folks know and trust the name Bert’s for value and quality, so it just fits that they can relax and enjoy our food while they’re watching America’s favorite pastime.”
Menu items from Bert’s Marketplace will be available throughout the entire season at the Brushfire Grill, while the other businesses will rotate throughout the season.
The Tigers, in partnership with Delaware North, which operates concessions at Comerica Park and Little Caesars Arena, will welcome several other small businesses from the city of Detroit including Green Dot Stables and Taqueria El Rey. Green Dot Stables menu items will be available in the Meijer Market outside Section 143, and Taqueria El Rey’s Mexican fare will be available for purchase in the Miller Lite Market near Section 149.
Below is a list of the confirmed restaurants, their locations in the ballpark, and their menu offerings:
Detroit Tigers and Comerica Bank Unveil New Fan Experience in 2023
April 10, 2023
The Detroit Tigers and Comerica Bank this season are unveiling the Comerica Landing, an area of Comerica Park set to enhance the overall fan experience.
Located above the right field seating, Comerica Landing provides a spectacular view and a party-like atmosphere, complete with table-top seating and cocktail tables, to create an enjoyable hangout for all ticketed fans. Engagements in the Comerica Landing start once the gates open on game days, including 90 minutes before first pitch for “Party in the Park” Fridays.
“When the calendar turns to spring, it is a very exciting time here in Detroit with the start of a new Tigers season,” said Steve Davis, Comerica Bank Michigan Market President. “As our partnership with the Tigers continues to grow, we share in the overall goal to positively impact both the fan experience at Comerica Park and further our commitment to our communities. The new Comerica Landing further expands upon this, and we can’t wait for Tigers fans to experience this spectacular feature of the stadium.”
This season marks the 24th year of Tigers baseball at Comerica Park. Comerica’s corporate naming-rights partnership with the Tigers and Comerica Park, which launched in 2000 when the ballpark first opened, is one of Major League Baseball’s longest such relationships and, in 2018, the Tigers and Comerica extended the current naming-rights partnership to 2034.
“We’re very appreciative of our long-standing partnership with Comerica Bank and are looking forward to Tigers fans celebrating in the Comerica Landing beginning on Opening Day,” said Ryan Gustafson, Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer for Ilitch Sports + Entertainment (IS+E). “It’s an ideal social space to gather before or during a game and provides a tremendous panoramic view of Comerica Park.”

In 2023, the Tigers are set to host the 21st annual Negro Leagues Weekend, presented by Comerica Bank, from July 21-23. Negro Leagues Weekend is the longest-running celebration of its kind in Major League Baseball. The weekend kicks off with the Negro Leagues Luncheon and culminates with the annual Negro Leagues Tribute Game, which first started in 1997.
In 2021, with Comerica’s support, the Tigers and Detroit Red Wings launched Game Changers, an ongoing series which honors community members who profoundly impact the lives of individuals and families across metro Detroit, with an emphasis on those supporting local children. Each honoree receives a $1,000 grant dedicated to the charity of their choice from the Tigers and Red Wings.
With the addition of this year’s honorees – February (Black History Month) and March (Women’s History Month) – 52 community leaders have been recognized for their outstanding philanthropic commitments since the program first launched in February 2021. In the past four years, Game Changers has contributed $52,000 to local nonprofits and more than 3,000 Red Wings or Tigers game tickets to their respective organizations.

Detroit’s Pewabic Pottery Recognizes Unique Installation at Historic Women’s City Club with New Necklace
April 10, 2023
Detroit’s Pewabic Pottery has made part of their tile restoration work at the historic Women’s City Club building available to the public in the form of a necklace.
The necklace, available on Pewabic’s website and in their retail shop on East Jefferson in Detroit, is inspired by the tile pattern prominent on the exterior doorway arch of the Women’s City Club. The building’s original 1920’s tilework was made by Pewabic’s co-founder, Mary Chase Perry Stratton.
Like the original tilework, the necklace’s geometric teardrop design was created by Stratton, featuring glowing blue tiles as well as her signature iridescent glazes that adorn the original arch of the doorway.
Founded in 1903, and one of the oldest continually operating potteries in the country, Pewabic is active today as pottery, architectural tile studio, ceramic arts education center and cultural destination.
In addition to the Women’s City Club, Pewabic’s work can be found across Detroit, including at Comerica Park, Little Caesars Arena, Wayne State University and the Detroit Institute of Arts, as well as other locations outside of Detroit including the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago and Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C.
Olympia Development had tapped artisans at Pewabic to assist with tile restoration in the Women’s City Club. “We’re proud to commemorate a nearly 100-year legacy, left by Mrs. Stratton, in the restoration of the beautiful tile in the entryway of the Women’s City Club,” said Leo Mendez, Vice President of Planning & Design for Olympia Development of Michigan. “Restoring the tile is a true full-circle way of preserving her legacy.”
The task of restoring the tile was meticulous, and evolved over a period of time, says Pewabic’s senior designer Genevieve Sylvia. She and her team spent hours developing glazes, creating custom tile profiles and having conversations about how best to preserve the original tile, while creating new tile to repair what had been damaged over the years.
“Creating projects that add to our Detroit architecture and the architecture of communities around the country is incredibly rewarding. As each project brings their specific site challenges, that project resolution is unique, creating individually-custom tile installations,” said Sylvia. “Contributing to these projects continues Pewabic’s legacy of work while creating our next phase of history.”
The necklace, which helps pay tribute to Pewabic’s work at the Women’s City Club, provides an opportunity to wear a piece of the city’s architectural past while supporting Pewabic’s non-profit mission. That mission, through educational and cultural programs in schools and across the community, is to “enrich the human spirit through clay.”
In addition to the Women’s City Club necklace, other Detroit-focused items can be purchased on Pewabic’s site, such as the Detroit Tigers Old English D and Red Wings tiles and ornaments.
