Jeff Greenberg Named General Manager of the Detroit Tigers

September 20, 2023

After a year-long vacancy in the role of General Manager, the Detroit Tigers today announced that Jeff Greenberg, an exceptionally innovative and progressive executive, has agreed to take on the role. Greenberg will be the 20th General Manager in the 123-year history of the club, dating back to 1901.

Greenberg, 37, will report to President of Baseball Operations, Scott Harris, and joins the Tigers after spending the last 16 months as an Associate General Manager with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Prior to joining the Blackhawks, Greenberg spent 11 seasons with the Chicago Cubs, including his final three seasons as an Assistant General Manager. He also held roles as Director of Pro Scouting and Baseball Operations, Director of Baseball Operations and Assistant to the General Manager. While with the Cubs, Greenberg played a key role in creating the systems and strategies that helped the Cubs scout and develop talent, leading to five postseason appearances during his tenure, including the 2016 World Series championship.

“I’m thrilled to add an executive of Jeff’s quality to our baseball operations leadership team,” said Harris. “Throughout this search, it was important for me to find someone who can fit seamlessly into the culture we’re building here. I also wanted to bring in someone with a fresh perspective and new ideas that could challenge us on a daily basis and make us all better as we strive towards our goal of bringing postseason baseball back to Detroit. We’re excited to welcome Jeff, his wife, Erin, and their sons, Leo and Sam to the Tigers family.”

In his most recent role with the Blackhawks, Greenberg oversaw the strategic systems and processes in hockey operations. He worked across all functions of hockey operations, including scouting, development, coaching and operations to establish and optimize a modern, continually evolving approach.

“It’s an extraordinary honor to take on this role with one of the most historic franchises in Major League Baseball,” said Greenberg. “Throughout my conversations with Scott, Chris Ilitch and the rest of the team with the Tigers, it became clear that this organization is headed in a great direction with an incredible culture of development and innovation that I’m excited to be part of. Another constant message in those conversations was that Tigers fans want to see winning baseball deep into October. I’m excited to get to work with our front office on off-season and longer-term plans to make that our reality.”

Before his time in Chicago, Greenberg was an intern with the Pittsburgh Pirates (2006, 2008), Arizona Diamondbacks (2010) and Major League Baseball (2009-11).

A native of Pittsburgh, PA, Greenberg is a graduate of Columbia Law School (JD, 2011) and the University of Pennsylvania (BA, 2008).

Little Caesars Exceptional Growth Drives Promotion of Key Leaders

September 19, 2023

  • Long-term CEO Appoints Paula Vissing and Ed Gleich to New Leadership Roles
  • Move Sets Up Innovative Pizza Chain For Continued Global Growth

Little Caesars, the world’s largest privately owned pizza chain, has experienced explosive sales and new unit growth over the last several years, in existing and new countries around the globe. To support this and ongoing growth, Little Caesars 18-year CEO Dave Scrivano is promoting Paula Vissing and Ed Gleich to more expansive posts. Vissing, formerly chief operating officer at the company, will now serve as president of Little Caesars global retail. Gleich, formerly chief innovation officer, will serve as president of global services for the brand. They will continue to report to Scrivano, who will remain chief executive officer.

“We have such tremendous talent at Little Caesars, and we’re thrilled to promote from within for these two key roles,” said Scrivano. “Paula has delivered incredible business results both domestically and abroad, and Ed has driven significant global sales growth with game-changing innovations, new products and brand building initiatives improving the guest experience.”

Gleich joined Little Caesars in 2011 as head of marketing. In that role, he focused on driving increased restaurant-level sales and profits by expanding the brand into national media advertising, launching its new brand identity, and promoting successful limited time offers, including the Bacon Wrapped DEEP! DEEP! Dish pizza and the fan-favorite Pretzel Crust pizza. Gleich also oversaw the evolution of the brand’s core menu, with additions like the Detroit-Style Deep Dish pizza, the Lunch Combo and the ExtraMostBestest product line. Later, as chief innovation and strategy officer, he focused on identifying and launching significant sales growth drivers such as native and marketplace delivery. His experience is deep in the restaurant industry, with key leadership roles at several of the nation’s largest restaurant chains. A Chicago-area native, Gleich holds a B.S. in business from Emporia State University. As president of global services, in addition to innovation, he will oversee many key functions of the business, including U.S. and international supply chain, bakery operations, equipment, restaurant design evolution and automation/engineering.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to build upon the company’s strong foundation of value, quality, and convenience in this new role,” said Gleich. “Little Caesars has excelled at innovation and service for over 60 years, striving every day to make customers’ lives easier. Our ability to set the stage for franchisee growth is what makes it such an exciting time to be a part of this storied brand.”

Vissing has served in expanding roles at Little Caesars, joining the company as vice president of purchasing and quality assurance in 2011 and then elevating to senior vice president of international. She was responsible for all Little Caesars locations in more than two dozen countries and territories. Under her leadership, Little Caesars experienced the largest period of international growth in the company’s 60+ year history. Later, as chief operating officer, she led key global business functions during a time of aggressive expansion and significant sales growth. Vissing has more than 25 years of experience in the restaurant industry providing strategic leadership for national brands. A Kentucky native, Vissing received a B.S. in economics from the University of Louisville and an M.B.A. from the University of Kentucky. As president of Little Caesars global retail, she will continue to oversee restaurants globally, and will add the areas of global marketing and global development to her oversight.

“It is an exciting time for the company as we continue to experience tremendous growth, and I am honored to have the opportunity to take on this incredible leadership role,” says Vissing. “I look forward to further collaboration with Little Caesars franchisees, colleagues and the executive team as we continue to bring delicious pizza to families around the world at such an incredible value.”

Dave Scrivano will remain in his role as chief executive officer.

September 14, 2023

Recognizing the profound impact of first responders’ service, the Detroit Tigers in collaboration with BELFOR Property Restoration (BELFOR) honored hundreds of local heroes from across the metro Detroit area during a pregame ceremony at Comerica Park on September 12. This initiative is part of BELFOR’s enduring commitment to acknowledging and appreciating the invaluable contributions of first responders in the community.

“First responders put the safety of their communities first, day in and day out,” said Sheldon Yellen, CEO of BELFOR. “On this day each year, our BELFOR family expresses its solidarity for the heroes who gave the ultimate sacrifice on September 11th, 2001. It’s an honor to participate in this annual First Responder game as a small token of our gratitude for their heroic efforts.”

The event commenced with two local first responders, Chief Bob Phillips from the Macomb Township Fire Department and Chief Chris Stoecklein from the Canton Fire Department, stepping up to throw the ceremonial first pitches. Catching each of these pitches was BELFOR CEO Sheldon Yellen.

Retired Canton Firefighter Maureen “Mo” Stoecklein, now the Nutritionist for the Detroit Tigers, joined in to throw the third ceremonial first pitch.

“It’s important to thank those who give so much to their fellow citizens, especially in remembrance of the tragic events on 9/11, when our country lost so many brave men and women in uniform,” said Chris Coffman, Senior Vice President of Corporate Partnerships at Ilitch Sports + Entertainment. “We’re grateful for the heroes in our backyard, and it’s an honor to publicly acknowledge them for their works.”

Detroit Tigers Foundation, bubly Sparkling Water, and United Way Host Back-to-School Kickoff Event at Roberto Clemente Learning Academy

September 14, 2023

In honor of Roberto Clemente Day, the Detroit Tigers Foundation, in partnership with bubly sparkling water and United Way for Southeastern Michigan, hosted a back-to-school event for students and teachers at Roberto Clemente Learning Academy, marking the culmination of a month-long volunteer campaign and showcasing the partnership’s commitment to the community.

The event featured Tigers pitcher Eduardo Rodríguez and infielder Andy Ibáñez actively participating alongside students and teachers and was filled with activities and excitement. Director of Community Impact for Ilitch Sports + Entertainment, Kevin Brown, said, “This event exemplifies our commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of students and their families.”

Detroit Tigers Foundation Partners with Fantasy Camp for Kids and Easterseals Miracle League to Provide Accessible Baseball

September 13, 2023

For kids with special needs, access to sports and accommodating playing fields can be hard to come by. Recognizing a need, the Detroit Tigers Foundation in partnership with the Easterseals Miracle League and Fantasy Camp for Kids Foundation recently hosted youth from across the state of Michigan to enjoy a day filled with baseball and fun.

The event was held at the Easterseals Miracle League Field in Southfield, Michigan, a facility specifically designed to ensure that baseball is accessible. Stations led by Detroit Tigers players Reese Olson and Brendan White, and player spouses Gigi Manning and Tali Mize, were set up for youth to focus on the three integral parts of baseball: throwing, hitting, and fielding. The Tigers players and significant others were assisted by volunteers from the Detroit Tigers front office and Easterseals of Michigan to ensure that each child and their families had an unforgettable experience.

Each participant left the event with new baseball knowledge in addition to a customized Detroit Tigers jersey, a Tigers hat and memories that will last a lifetime.

“I’m excited for the kids to come out and enjoy an experience that is like no other,” said Matthew Williams, Manager of Community Impact for the Detroit Tigers. “Every child should have the opportunity to play a sport, I’m glad the Tigers are a part of bringing baseball to all kids.”
