Fifty-seven Players Remain with Detroit Ahead of First Preseason Game on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at Chicago

The Detroit Red Wings today returned goaltender Landon Miller to the Ontario Hockey League’s Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. Additionally, the Red Wings have released forwards Brayden Edwards, Chase Lefebvre, Charlie Paquette and Borya Valis, and defensemen Bauer Dumanski, Marcus Kearsey, Zackary Sandhu, Blake Smith, Josh Van Mulligen and Matthew Virgilio from their amateur tryouts.

The Red Wings currently have 57 players on their training camp roster: 33 forwards, 16 defensemen and eight goaltenders. Detroit will practice at the BELFOR Training Center inside Little Caesars Arena on Tuesday, Sept. 24 before opening its eight-game preseason schedule with a road game against the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 8:00 p.m. at United Center.

Tigers Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Weekend of Events, Highlighted by ¡Fiesta Tigres!

The Detroit Tigers kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month in style, celebrating the city’s vibrant Hispanic community and team personnel of Hispanic descent. During a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles, Comerica Park played host to ¡Fiesta Tigres! on Saturday, September 14, featuring Latin music, special cuisine, giveaways, celebrations, and more.

The festivities began on Friday, September 13 with Hispanic Heritage Night, one of the Detroit Tigers’ theme games exploring the cultural richness of Detroit. Fans who purchased a special ticket package received a limited-edition Detroit Tigers Hispanic Heritage hat and everyone enjoyed a postgame concert from Mexican American singer Frankie J.

During Hispanic Heritage Night, the Tigers and Comerica Bank also honored the 2024 Hispanic Heritage Month Game Changers with a private pregame reception. These four metro Detroit community members have made a significant impact through leadership, advocacy, and philanthropy ,inspiring positive change and creating a more inclusive and equitable society for all.

The festivities continued the following day with the19th annual ¡Fiesta Tigres! celebration presented by Miller Lite.  Fans received a “Tigres” soccer jersey, courtesy of Miller Lite. A pregame on-field ceremony honored former Tigers All-Star catcher and broadcaster Alex Avila, as well as the Tigers’ current uniformed personnel of Latino heritage.

The Tigers closed out the weekend with Roberto Clemente Day, saluting All-Star Tarik Skubal, the Tigers’ 2024 Roberto Clemente Award nominee.

Throughout the series, the Tigers distributed more than 1,500 tickets to local Hispanic organizations as part of the celebration. Additionally, the Detroit Tigers Foundation made a donation to Latin Americans for Social and Economic Development’s summer youth program.

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated across the U.S. from September 15 to October 15.

Baseball Fantasy Camp for Kids Expands Accessibility to the Sport

The Detroit Tigers Foundation partnered with Easterseals MORC - Miracle League of Michigan and Fantasy Camp for Kids Foundation to present Baseball Fantasy Camp for Kids on September 13 in advance of the Tigers taking on the Baltimore Orioles. Players Spencer Torkelson and Kerry Carpenter joined 50 special needs children from Metro Detroit.

Miracle League of Michigan supports kids in multiple locations across the state to give them an opportunity to enjoy the game of baseball with volunteer assistants. This event was held at Easterseals Miracle League Field in Southfield, Michigan which is designed to ensure accessibility for all kids involved.  

All event participants received a Detroit Tigers jersey and hat. Volunteers from Detroit Tigers front office, Easterseals MORC and Wayne State University were on hand to help participants have an enjoyable experience. 

Red Wings Re-Sign Moritz Seider to Seven-Year Contract

2021-22 Calder Memorial Trophy Winner Has Recorded 134 Points in 246 Games

The Detroit Red Wings today re-signed defenseman Moritz Seider to a seven-year contract with an average annual value of $8.55 million.

Seider, 23, skated in all 82 games with the Red Wings during the 2023-24 season and ranked among the team’s leading defensemen with nine goals (3rd), 33 assists (2nd), 42 points (2nd), 51 penalty minutes (2nd), three power play goals (1st), 17 power play points (2nd), 135 shots (2nd), 211 hits (1st), 212 blocks (1st) and 22:22 average time on ice (1st). The 6-foot-3, 205-pound blueliner was the only NHL player to record at least 200 hits and 200 blocks in 2023-24, setting franchise records in both categories. He set multiple personal milestones in his third NHL campaign, recording his 100th career point with an assist on Oct. 26 vs. Winnipeg, skating in his 200th career game on Dec. 29 vs. Nashville and logging his 100th career assist on Jan. 27 vs. Vegas. Seider matched his point total from the 2022-23 campaign, when he tallied 42 points (5-37-42) and 40 penalty minutes in 82 games.

Seider made an immediate impact with the Red Wings in 2021-22, leading all NHL rookie defensemen in games played (82), assists (43), points (50), power play points (21), overtime goals (2), game-winning goals (4), shots (187), blocks (161) and average time on ice (23:02). Seider was named the recipient of the 2021-22 Calder Memorial Trophy, becoming the sixth player – and first defenseman – in Red Wings history to be honored as the NHL’s top rookie, joining Roger Crozier (1964-65), Glenn Hall (1955-56), Terry Sawchuk (1950-51), Jim McFadden (1947-48) and Carl Voss (1932-33). Seider also earned a place on the All-Rookie Team alongside Lucas Raymond, becoming the first Red Wings defenseman to be selected to the All-Rookie Team since Nicklas Lidström and Vladimir Konstantinov were both honored in 1991-92. Seider was chosen as the NHL’s Rookie of the Month for October 2021 after picking up eight assists in his first nine career NHL games. Selected by the Red Wings in the first round (sixth overall) of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, Seider has compiled 134 points (21-113-134) and 125 penalty minutes in 246 games, which is the highest point total in his draft class among defensemen.

Prior to making his Red Wings debut, Seider was loaned to Rögle BK of the Swedish Hockey League for the 2020-21 season, earning Defenseman of the Year honors after recording 28 points (7-21-28), a plus-14 rating and 16 penalty minutes in 41 regular-season games, in addition to five points (1-4-5) in 13 postseason contests. Seider played the entire 2019-20 season with the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins, collecting 22 points (2-20-22) and 28 penalty minutes in 49 games. He made his professional debut at age 16 with Adler Mannheim in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL), logging six points (2-4-6) and eight penalty minutes in 33 games from 2017-19. Seider was named Rookie of the Year in Germany’s top professional league in 2018-19, helping Adler Mannheim win a DEL championship.

A native of Zell, Germany, Seider represented his country at four straight IIHF World Championships from 2019-23, winning a silver medal at the 2023 IIHF World Championship after recording five points (1-4-5), a plus-six rating and 31 penalty minutes in 10 games. Additionally, Seider was named Best Defenseman at the 2021 IIHF World Championship, logging five assists in 10 games. Seider captained Germany at the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship, tallying six assists in seven appearances. He was named Best Defenseman at the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship Division 1 A tournament, captaining the team to a gold medal and registering seven points (1-6-7) in five games. Seider also captured two medals in international competition during the 2017-18 season, winning bronze at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship Division 1 A tournament, in addition to earning Best Defenseman honors and a silver medal at the 2018 IIHF World Under-18 Championship Division 1 A tournament.

Red Wings Release 2024 Training Camp Roster and Schedule

Sixty-Eight Players Hit the Ice from Sept. 19-22 in Traverse City

The Detroit Red Wings today released their training camp roster and schedule, comprised of 68 players who will hit the ice on Thursday, Sept. 19 at Centre ICE Arena in Traverse City, Mich., for four days of camp before beginning their eight-game preseason schedule with a road game against the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday, Sept. 25.

The Red Wings will bring 37 forwards, 22 defensemen and nine goaltenders to Traverse City to participate in daily on-ice practices. Following the team’s annual Red & White Game on Sunday, Sept. 22, the Red Wings will break camp to return to Detroit ahead of the exhibition slate, which is highlighted by home games against the Chicago Blackhawks (Friday, Sept. 27 at 7:00 p.m.), Pittsburgh Penguins (Saturday, Sept. 28 at 7:00 p.m.), Toronto Maple Leafs (Thursday, Oct. 3 at 7:00 p.m.) and Ottawa Senators (Friday, Oct. 4 at 7:00 p.m.).

Ilitch Sports + Entertainment, in partnership with Comerica Bank, honored four community leaders as Game Changers for Hispanic Heritage Month in September. The honorees were celebrated during a pregame reception at Comerica Park, where their contributions to their communities and respective fields were highlighted.

The Game Changers program, sponsored by Comerica Bank, acknowledges and supports individuals who have made a significant impact on local families, businesses, and communities. Each honoree receives a $1,000 donation to the charity of their choice, allowing them to further their philanthropic efforts and continue making a difference. Each honoree is highlighted with an editorial, published weekly throughout September and shared on Tigers.com/Equality.

JoAnn Chávez, Founder, President & CEO, Michigan Hispanic Collaborative: JoAnn Chávez is a 6th-generation Mexican American, born and raised in Detroit. The Michigan Hispanic Collaborative serves 1,000 kids and families, helping them create an economic pathway out of poverty through a bachelor’s degree.

Jorge Chinea, Director, Wayne State University Center for Latino/a and Latin American Studies: Jorge Chinea is a distinguished service professor of history and the director of the Wayne State University Center for Latino/a and Latin American Studies. Chinea’s published works have focused on immigration, race relations, labor systems, and plantation-based agriculture in the colonial Caribbean. He has been a visiting scholar at the Library of Congress, and currently serves on the Community Advisory Board of WXYZ TV and on the Advisory Board of the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan.

Raymond Lozano, Executive Director, Mexicantown Community Development Corporation, Inc.: Lozano has served in numerous roles that benefited the Hispanic community including, Executive Director of LA SED, Executive Director of the Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Director of Race Relations for New Detroit, and he serves as chairman of the board of directors for SER Metro Detroit. Red Wings Re-Sign Lucas Raymond to Eight-Year Contract

Fourth Overall Pick in 2020 NHL Entry Draft Has Recorded 174 Points in 238 Games

The Detroit Red Wings today re-signed right wing Lucas Raymond to an eight-year contract with an average annual value of $8.075 million.

Raymond, 22, skated in all 82 games with the Red Wings during the 2023-24 season and ranked among the team leaders with 31 goals (2nd), 41 assists (2nd), 72 points (1st), six power play goals (4th), 16 power play points (6th), three overtime goals (T1st), four game-winning goals (T3rd), 163 shots (3rd) and a 19.0 shooting percentage (1st). The 5-foot-11, 188-pound forward also paced the Red Wings with 21 multi-point games, including his second career hat trick on April 11 against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Raymond became the first Detroit skater to lead the team in points at season’s end at age 22-or-younger since Dylan Larkin, who did so in 2017-18 and 2018-19. Additionally, Raymond is the fourth Red Wings player in the previous 30 years to score at least 30 goals in a season at age 22-or-younger, joining Larkin (32 in 2018-19), Vyacheslav Kozlov (34 in 1993-94) and Keith Primeau (31 in 1993-94).

Raymond showed a 27-point improvement from his sophomore campaign, when he recorded 45 points (17-28-45) and 24 penalty minutes in 74 games during the 2022-23 season. He was named the NHL’s Second Star for the week ending Jan. 15, 2023 after logging seven points (3-4-7) in a three-game span from Jan. 10-14. Raymond made his NHL debut in 2021-22, collecting 57 points (23-34-57) and 16 penalty minutes in 82 games en route to being selected to the All-Rookie Team and placing fourth in voting for the Calder Memorial Trophy, which was awarded to Red Wings teammate Moritz Seider. Raymond was named the NHL’s Rookie of the Month for November 2021 after leading all rookies in goals (5), assists (7) and points (12) in 14 games. Selected by Detroit in the first round (fourth overall) of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, Raymond became the Red Wings’ highest draft pick since the team chose Keith Primeau third overall in 1990. In total, Raymond has compiled 174 points (71-103-174) and 70 penalty minutes in 238 NHL games, which is the second-highest point total in his draft class behind Tim Stützle.

Prior to arriving in North America, Raymond played in parts of three seasons with Frölunda HC, based out of his hometown of Gothenburg, Sweden. Raymond made his professional debut in the Swedish Hockey League at age 16, notching 33 points (14-19-33), a plus-13 rating and 16 penalty minutes in 87 games from 2018-21. He also won back-to-back Champions Hockey League titles with Frölunda in 2019 and 2020. Raymond developed in Frölunda’s system, totaling 62 points (16-46-62) and 32 penalty minutes in 54 games with the under-20 team, adding 84 points (38-46-84) and 20 penalty minutes in 56 games with the under-18 squad and accumulating 151 points (71-80-151) and 60 penalty minutes over 72 games at the under-16 level.

On the international stage, Raymond won a bronze medal at the 2024 IIHF World Championship, recording nine points (4-5-9) in 10 games. Raymond also represented his country at the 2023 IIHF World Championship, tallying eight points (2-6-8) in eight appearances. He competed in back-to-back IIHF World Junior Championships in 2020 and 2021, earning a bronze medal at the 2020 tournament. Raymond led Sweden to a gold medal at the 2019 IIHF World Under-18 Championship, where he racked up eight points (4-4-8) in seven games, including a hat trick and overtime winner in the gold medal game against Russia. He captured a bronze medal at the 2018 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, registering seven points (4-3-7) in six games, and also won a silver medal at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup with a team-leading seven points (5-2-7) in five games.

Red Wings Re-Sign Jonatan Berggren to One-Year Contract

2018 Second-Round Pick Has Recorded 34 Points in 79 Games with Detroit

The Detroit Red Wings today re-signed right wing Jonatan Berggren to a one-year contract with an average annual value of $825,000.

Berggren, 23, skated in 12 games with the Red Wings during the 2023-24 season, recording six points (2-4-6) and two penalty minutes. The 5-foot-11, 194-pound forward also played in 53 games with the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins in 2023-24 and ranked among the team leaders with 24 goals (1st), 32 assists (1st), 56 points (1st), 58 penalty minutes (T2nd), four power play goals (T3rd), 19 power play points (1st), four game-winning goals (T1st), 156 shots (2nd) and a 15.4 shooting percentage (1st), representing the club at the 2024 AHL All-Star Classic. Additionally, Berggren led the Griffins with 10 points (5-5-10) in nine postseason contests, including a pair of overtime goals in the Central Division Semifinals against the Rockford IceHogs. Berggren spent the majority of the 2022-23 season with the Red Wings and placed among the team leaders with 15 goals (5th), 28 points (9th), five power play goals (T4th), nine power play points (7th) and a 15.3 shooting percentage (1st) in 67 games. He also registered seven points (4-3-7) in seven appearances with the Griffins in 2022-23. Selected by the Red Wings in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, Berggren has collected 34 points (17-17-34) and 18 penalty minutes in 79 career NHL games. He has also logged 127 points (49-78-127) and 84 penalty minutes in 130 AHL games with the Griffins since 2021-22.

Prior to arriving in North America, Berggren played for Skellefteå AIK in the Swedish Hockey League, tying for the team lead with 45 points (12-33-45) in 49 games during the 2020-21 campaign, in addition to four assists in 12 postseason contests. In all, Berggren notched 60 points (14-46-60), a plus-seven rating and 28 penalty minutes in 99 games with Skellefteå AIK in Sweden’s top professional league from 2017-21. Berggren also registered 69 points (24-45-69), a plus-19 rating and 42 penalty minutes in 67 career games for Skellefteå’s under-20 team from 2016-18. The Uppsala, Sweden, native represented his country at the 2023 IIHF World Championship, tallying seven points (2-5-7), a plus-five rating and two penalty minutes in eight games. Berggren earned a bronze medal at the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship, recording five points (1-4-5) in seven games. He captured a bronze medal with Sweden at the 2018 IIHF World Under-18 Championship after leading the team with 10 points (5-5-10) in seven games, and also won bronze after picking up five points (3-2-5) in five games at the 2017 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. Additionally, Berggren won a gold medal with Sweden during the 2016 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, tallying three points (2-1-3) in six games.

The Detroit Tigers Foundation Partners with Meijer and The Children’s Center to Provide Back-to-School Supplies for Students

“Back to School Backpack Bazaar” Participants Celebrated at Detroit Tigers Game on September 11

To support the educational well-being of children served by Detroit’s The Children’s Center, the organization provides 1,500 backpacks each year stuffed with school supplies. Presented by Meijer and the Detroit Tigers Foundation, The Children’s Center Back to School Backpack Bazaar took place throughout the summer, culminating in over 259 families served by The Children’s Center attending the Tigers game on September 11 to see the team take on the Colorado Rockies. 

The Children’s Center provides specialized clinical services for children affected by behavioral, emotional, educational, intellectual and developmental challenges or may have experienced trauma.

Ilitch Sports + Entertainment, Meijer, and Children’s Center colleagues filled the backpacks with grade-appropriate supplies across multiple events in June at The Children’s Center’s campus in Detroit and a stuffing day at Comerica Park in July. Backpacks were distributed to program participants in elementary, secondary, and high school in August to kick off the school year.
