The NHL’s United By Hockey Mobile Museum recently made a stop at Little Caesars Arena during its multi-city tour, allowing metro Detroiters to explore interactive exhibits that tell the story of the NHL’s humble beginnings, its rise to popularity, and the diverse individuals who helped make the game what it is today.

Following the visit to Little Caesars Arena, the mobile museum stopped at a special community event for Detroit families at Jack Adams Memorial Arena. Located on the city’s west side, attendees experienced ice skating, street hockey led by Red Wings Learn, Play, Score Ambassador Jason McCrimmon, and a Little Caesars Food Truck.

“It’s always amazing to interact with young people interested in hockey. Exposing more Detroiters to the sport makes my job worthwhile, and it gives me purpose,” said McCrimmon, who is a 2023 Willie O’Ree Community Hero Award finalist and the founder of nonprofit Detroit Ice Dreams, which is dedicated to promoting and subsidizing hockey for underrepresented youth in the community.

The NHL’s United By Hockey Mobile Museum was launched in 2023 to bring together communities across the United States and Canada through hockey. Prior to 2023, the league’s Black Hockey History Tour mobile history museum traveled to different cities, showcasing the incredible impact of Black pioneers and trailblazers in NHL history. Starting at All-Star Weekend in February and continuing through June, the United By Hockey Mobile Museum has been traveling to all 32 of the NHL’s markets.

From the Original Six teams to the expansion era and beyond, the mobile museum celebrates hockey’s trailblazers, changemakers and business leaders spanning multiple underrepresented and multicultural demographics.

“Through United By Hockey’s mobile museum and other local initiatives, we’re not only promoting the game, but also championing unity and inclusivity through our continued commitment to ensure Hockey is for Everyone,” said Kevin Brown, Director of Community Impact for Ilitch Sports + Entertainment.

Consistent with the mission of United By Hockey, the Detroit Red Wings champion community programs like Learn, Play, Score, focusing on breaking down systemic barriers by providing equitable access to hockey in various forms for tens of thousands of children across Detroit. Programming includes “Street Hockey in The D,” Esports lounges at the Boys and Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan, ice rink collaborations with Clark Park, East Side Hockey Ice Arena and Jack Adams Memorial Arena, open skate opportunities for youth at Little Caesars Arena and more.

• Special event at Comerica Park promotes breast cancer screening and awareness

The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, in partnership with the Detroit Tigers and McLaren Health Care, the official health care system of the Tigers, continues the tradition of “Pink Out the Park” during the Friday, May 12 game against the Seattle Mariners at Comerica Park. This special event has raised awareness for breast health for the past 11 years. Breast cancer survivors will be honored during a special pre-game ceremony on the field, with first pitch scheduled for 6:40 p.m.

Gates will open to Comerica Park at 5:10 p.m., and there will be a Pink Out the Park theme for the “Party in the Park” on the Comerica Landing, including a specialty cocktail, $5 food and drink specials, a DJ and more.

Throughout the game and on the concourse, fans can engage in several initiatives, including a ceremonial first pitch, in-game awareness promotions and entertainment, and an on-field recognition ceremony honoring members of the Karmanos Breast Cancer Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) across the cancer center’s statewide network.

New to Pink Out the Park this year, a MEGA breast inflatable will be available for fans to engage and interact with. This larger-than-life, walk-through model of the human breast is a wonderful way to understand what breast cancer looks like, how screening and early detection can help with outcomes, and much more.

During the fourth inning, Tigers fans will have the opportunity to hold up “Pink Out the Park” cheer cards with the name of a loved one who has faced breast cancer during a tribute and moment of reflection. Both teams will also participate in the impactful annual recognition. Following the game, for the first time at a Pink Out the Park event, Friday Night Fireworks will be on display in the outfield.

“I am always inspired by the strength and perseverance of the women and men who undergo treatment for breast cancer. Cancer is blind to age, religion, skin color, and income level, but so too is grit and toughness,” said Eric Brown, M.D., FACS, co-leader of the Breast Cancer MDT at Karmanos. “Pink Out the Park is a wonderful way to honor and recognize these patients, their strength, and their success. It’s truly an honor to be trusted by patients to participate in their journey. They are my heroes.”

The first 15,000 fans through the gates will receive a Pink Out the Park pullover. Special Pink Out the Park ticket packages are available to support breast cancer research at Karmanos. Aside from skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer in American women, according to the American Cancer Society (ACS). In the United States, women have a one-in-eight chance of developing the disease. In 2023, ACS estimates there will be 297,790 new cases of invasive breast cancer. That number has increased from the 2022 estimate, which was 287,850.

At Karmanos, the Breast Cancer MDT includes surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, plastic surgeons, pharmacists, specialized nurse practitioners, dietitians, social workers, and genetic counselors. The team focuses entirely on treating breast cancer and shares its collective expertise to create a customized treatment plan for each patient.

In the fight against cancer, early detection is an important weapon since cancer is most treatable in its early stages. Many forms of cancer do not display symptoms at their onset, so screening tests help monitor for warning signs. Karmanos recommends an annual screening mammogram for all women of average risk beginning at age 40. Women with one or more risk factors should talk with their family doctor or a Karmanos expert about when to start screening for breast cancer.

Part of McLaren Health Care, the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute offers many screening resources for women at the Women’s Wellness Clinic in Detroit, the Karmanos Cancer Institute at the Lawrence and Idell Weisberg Cancer Center in Farmington Hills, and McLaren locations near 12 additional sites across the Karmanos Cancer Network. Types of screening available throughout the health system include 3D mammography, breast ultrasound, such as the SoftVue™ 3D Whole Breast Ultrasound Tomography System in Detroit, and breast MRI. Karmanos’ high-risk breast assessment given to women in Detroit and Farmington Hills allows specialists to understand a patient’s risk for developing additional cancers, such as lung, ovarian and colon.

Derek Lalonde (Brasher Falls, N.Y./Detroit Red Wings), Scott Gordon (Easton, Mass./San Jose Sharks) and Ryan Warsofsky (North Marshfield, Mass./San Jose Sharks) have been named assistant coaches, Thomas Speer (Janesville, Wis./San Jose Sharks) goaltending coach and Mike King  (Center Conway, N.H./Ottawa Senators) and Nick Gialdini (San Jose, Calif./San Jose Sharks) video coaches for the 2023 U.S. Men’s National Team it was announced today by USA Hockey.

Team USA will compete in the 2023 IIHF Men’s World Championship May 12-28 in Tampere, Finland, and Riga, Latvia, with David Quinn previously announced as the squad’s head coach.

“We’ve got a terrific staff overall,” said Chris Clark, general manager of the 2023 U.S. Men’s National Team and also the assistant general manager of the NHL’s Columbus Blue jackets. “The group brings varied experiences which will all contribute to our ultimate goal of bringing home a gold medal.”

‍ABOUT DEREK LALONDE

‍Lalonde, in his first season as head coach of the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings, will be part of the coaching staff of a U.S. Men’s National Team for first time. Lalonde has been involved with U.S. teams on the international stage on two other occasions, helping the U.S. Junior Select Team to championships in the World Junior A Challenge in 2013 as head coach and as assistant coach in 2012.

Lalonde arrived in Detroit after spending four seasons (2018-22) as an assistant coach for the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning where he helped Tampa Bay earn Stanley Cup titles in 2020 and 2021.

The Brasher Falls, New York, native served as an assistant coach in NCAA Division I men’s ice hockey first with Ferris State from 2002-2006 and then at the University of Denver from 2006-2011. He moved on to serve as head coach and general manager for the USHL’s Green Bay Gamblers from 2011-14 where he recorded an overall record of 114-56-8-6 and was named the USHL Coach of the Year in 2012 after helping the Gamblers earn the Clark Cup title.

Lalonde spent two seasons (2014-16) as the head coach of the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL and earned the John Brophy Award as the league’s coach of the year in his first campaign.

From 2016-18 he was the head coach of the AHL’s Iowa Wild before moving to Tampa.

Lalonde’s coaching career began as a graduate assistant men’s ice hockey coach at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (formerly North Adams State) from 1995-98. He then started a two-year stint as an assistant men’s ice hockey coach at Lebanon Valley College following by two seasons as an assistant men’s ice hockey coach at Hamilton College.

‍ABOUT SCOTT GORDON

‍Gordon, with more than 25 years of coaching experience, is in his first season as an assistant coach with the NHL’s San Jose Sharks.

The Easton, Mass., native is no stranger to international hockey, having served as head coach for the U.S. Men’s National Team on three occasions (2010, 2011, 2012) and as assistant coach once (2009). Gordon also was an assistant coach for the silver medal-winning 2010 U.S. Olympic Men’s Hockey Team and for Team USA in the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.

Before joining the Sharks, Gordon served for six seasons as head coach at Lehigh Valley of the AHL where he compiled a 186-121-40 regular-season record. Gordon’s career has also included stops as an assistant coach for the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs (2011-14) and as head coach of the NHL’s New York Islanders (2008-10).

In 2007-08, Gordon led the Providence Bruins of the AHL to a league-best 55-18-3 record and earned the Louis A.R. Pieri Memorial Award as the AHL Coach of the Year. After spending two full seasons (2000-02) as an assistant coach at Providence, Gordon was promoted to head coach in his third season for the final nine games of the 2002-03 regular season and playoffs. In his five campaigns at the helm in Providence, the team compiled a 221-141-20-27 record (W-L-T-OT/SOL).

Gordon began his coaching career with the International Hockey League’s Atlanta Knights from 1994-96, and then spent two seasons (1996-98) with the IHL’s Quebec Rafales. His next move came in 1998-99, when he was named the head coach of the Roanoke Express of the East Coast Hockey League.

‍ABOUT RYAN WARSOFSKY

‍Warsofsky is in his first season as assistant coach with the NHL’s San Jose Sharks and is making his first appearance on the staff of a U.S. Men’s National Team.

Prior to joining the Sharks, Warsofsky spent two seasons as the head coach of the AHL’s Chicago Wolves, and in 2022, at age 34, became the youngest coach since Peter Laviolette in 1999 to guide a team to the Calder Cup. Warsofsky also spent two seasons (2018-20) with the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers and helped the team earn the Calder Cup in 2019.

Warsofsky got his coaching start as an assistant men’s hockey coach with NCAA Division III Curry College in 2012-13 and then spent five seasons (2013-18) with the ECHL’s South Carolina Stingrays, serving the first three campaigns as assistant coach and his final two seasons as head coach and director of hockey operations.

‍ABOUT MIKE KING

King will be part of the coaching staff of a U.S. Men’s National Team for the third straight year. He has spent the last four seasons as the video coach for the NHL’s Ottawa Senators and previous to that served as video coach for the Hershey Bears of the AHL. Prior to joining the Bears, King spent two seasons as a skills and development coach with the Ontario Hockey League’s Sudbury Wolves.

‍ABOUT NICK GIALDINI

‍Gialdini is serving for the first time as a member of the U.S. Men’s National Team coaching staff. He is in his first season as video coach for the NHL’s San Jose Sharks. Previously, Gaildini spent six campaigns with the San Jose Barracuda of the AHL as video coach and in hockey operations. Gialdini also served as a head coach at various youth hockey levels for the San Jose Jr. Sharks for nine seasons.

• Detroit joins Minnesota, Ottawa and Toronto in Stockholm from Nov. 16-19

The next chapter of the rich history between the Detroit Red Wings and Sweden is about to be written.

The National Hockey League and NHL/NHL Players’ Association announced on Wednesday, April 26 that the Red Wings will join the Minnesota Wild, Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs for four regular-season games at Avicii Arena in Stockholm as part of the 2023 NHL Global Series – Sweden.

Detroit will face off against Atlantic Division foe Ottawa on Thursday, Nov. 16., before a rivalry clash against Toronto on Friday, Nov. 17. After the Senators take on the Wild on Saturday, Nov. 18, the Maple Leafs will play Minnesota on Sunday, Nov. 19.

“Sweden is a really fun and cool country,” said forward Lucas Raymond, who is a native of Gothenburg and was selected fourth overall by Detroit in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. “There are a lot of fun things to do, culture to experience and landmarks that have been there for a long time. Stockholm is an exciting city.”

Tickets for the Global Series in Sweden will go on-sale to the public on Wednesday, May 2. Red Wings fans can inquire here about fan travel options, including packages that include airfare, hotel accommodations, tickets to both Red Wings games, ground transportation, sightseeing, select meals and more.  

The 2023 NHL Global Series will mark the second time the Red Wings have played regular-season games in Europe. Detroit also opened its 2009-10 regular season in Stockholm with two games against the St. Louis Blues.

In 1938, the Red Wings also played a nine-game postseason series against the Montreal Canadiens in Great Britain and France. The series was played in three different arenas in Paris and London, marking the first overseas tour by NHL players.

Detroit’s current roster is comprised of six Swedish players – Raymond, Jonatan Berggren, Simon Edvinsson, Robert Hagg, Magnus Hellberg and Gustav Lindstrom.

“I’m very excited to be able to play an NHL game in my home country in front of family and friends,” Raymond said. “It will be a great experience.”

Nearly 40 former or current Swedes have worn the Winged Wheel over the years, with stars like Nicklas Lidstrom, Henrik Zetterberg, Tomas Holmstrom, Niklas Kronwall and others helping establish a tradition of Swedish excellence in Hockeytown.

The 2023 NHL Global Series will see a record four NHL clubs in one European city for regular-season contests. To date, there have been 38 regular-season games played in Sweden, 12 of which were contested in Stockholm at the formerly known Ericsson Globe.

• Hirose Leads Grand Rapids With 56 Points In 69 Games; O’Regan Has Tallied 30 Points In 37 Games With Griffins

The Detroit Red Wings today assigned left wing Taro Hirose and center Danny O’Regan to the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins. Hirose, 26, appeared in three games with the Red Wings this season, recording two penalty minutes, two shots and a pair of blocks in 10:20 average time on ice. The 5-foot-10, 162-pound forward has also skated in 69 games with the Griffins and ranks among the team leaders with 15 goals (3rd), 41 assists (1st), 56 points (1st), three power play goals (6th) and 147 shots (2nd). Hirose split the 2021-22 campaign between Detroit and Grand Rapids, notching four points (1-3-4) in 15 games with the Red Wings while tallying 53 points (15-38-53) in 59 contests with the Griffins. In all, Hirose has logged 20 points (4-16-20) and 14 penalty minutes in 60 games with the Red Wings since making his NHL debut in 2018-19. He has also accumulated 164 points (40-124-164) and 40 penalty minutes in 192 games with the Griffins over the last four seasons. Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Red Wings on March 12, 2019, Hirose posted seven points (1-6-7) in 10 contests during his first NHL stint in 2018-19.

A native of Calgary, Alberta, Hirose spent three seasons at Michigan State University prior to turning professional, compiling 116 points (33-83-116) and 39 penalty minutes in 106 games from 2016-19. As a junior in 2018-19, Hirose was named the Big Ten Player of the Year and a Hobey Baker Award finalist after tying for the NCAA’s scoring lead with 50 points (15-35-50) in 36 games. He was also an All-Big Ten Second Team selection as a sophomore after showing 42 points (12-30-42) in 36 games during the 2017-18 campaign. Before starting his collegiate career, Hirose played two seasons with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks of the British Columbia Hockey League from 2014-16, totaling 121 points (33-88-121) and 30 penalty minutes in 116 games, in addition to five points (1-4-5) in six postseason contests. He paced Salmon Arm with 71 points (15-56-71) in 58 games during the 2015-16 season and was named the team’s Rookie of the Year after collecting 50 points (18-32-50) in 58 games in 2014-15.

O’Regan, 29, has spent the 2022-23 season with the Griffins and San Diego Gulls, recording 48 points (17-31-48) and 16 penalty minutes in 64 AHL games. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound forward was acquired by Detroit from the Anaheim Ducks on Dec. 19, 2022 as part of a three-team deal that sent right wing Givani Smith to the Florida Panthers. O’Regan split the 2021-22 campaign between Anaheim and San Diego, tallying one assist in five appearances with the Ducks, in addition to 34 points (13-21-34) and 20 penalty minutes in 53 contests with the Gulls. Originally selected by the San Jose Sharks in the fifth round (138th overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, O’Regan has logged six points (1-5-6) in 30 NHL games with the Sharks, Buffalo Sabres and Ducks since 2016-17. He has also compiled 303 points (113-190-303) and 132 penalty minutes in 398 AHL games with the San Jose Barracuda, Rochester Americans, Hartford Wolf Pack, Henderson Silver Knights, Gulls and Griffins. In his first professional season in 2016-17, O’Regan led all AHL rookies with 58 points (23-35-58) in 63 games and represented the Barracuda at the 2017 AHL All-Star Classic. In recognition of his efforts, O’Regan was named to the AHL All-Rookie Team and was the recipient of the Dudley “Red” Garrett Award as the AHL’s most outstanding rookie.

Prior to turning professional, O’Regan played four seasons at Boston University, totaling 154 points (66-88-154), a plus-28 rating and 72 penalty minutes in 154 games from 2012-16. He was named a Hockey East First-Team All-Star and NCAA East Second All-American Team selection after pacing the Terriers in goals (17), assists (27) and points (44) in 39 contests during his senior year. O’Regan was also a Hockey East Second-Team All-Star and NCAA Tournament All-Regional Team selection as a junior after helping the Terriers win the Hockey East title and clinch a berth in the 2015 NCAA Division I championship game. He was also selected to the 2012-13 Hockey East All-Rookie Team after becoming the first freshman in program history to lead the team in points since Tony Amonte in 1989-90. Before starting his collegiate career, O’Regan skated with the U.S. National Team Development Program in 2011-12. A native of Berlin, Germany, O’Regan has represented the United States on the international stage, netting one goal in four appearances at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship. O’Regan earned a gold medal with Team USA at the 2012 IIHF World Under-18 Championship, notching four points (1-3-4) in six games. He also competed at the 2011 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament, recording five points (2-3-5) in four games.

Expanding on last season’s efforts to provide opportunity to Detroit-based Black-owned restaurants at both Comerica Park and Little Caesars Arena, Comerica Park will welcome back four local restauranteurs for the 2023-24 Detroit Tigers season, in addition to several new ones.

‍Yum Village, Bert’s Marketplace, Breadless and The Lobster Food Truck all debuted during either last year’s Tigers or Red Wings seasons. The initiative, aimed at increasing economic inclusion for Detroiters, proved popular not only with fans, but also with the restaurant owners themselves.

“Being in the ballpark is such a great experience and we’ve had so much support from people,” said Jae Dearing, CEO of Bert’s Marketplace, located in Eastern Market. “Folks know and trust the name Bert’s for value and quality, so it just fits that they can relax and enjoy our food while they’re watching America’s favorite pastime.”

Menu items from Bert’s Marketplace will be available throughout the entire season at the Brushfire Grill, while the other businesses will rotate throughout the season.

The Tigers, in partnership with Delaware North, which operates concessions at Comerica Park and Little Caesars Arena, will welcome several other small businesses from the city of Detroit including Green Dot Stables and Taqueria El Rey. Green Dot Stables menu items will be available in the Meijer Market outside Section 143, and Taqueria El Rey’s Mexican fare will be available for purchase in the Miller Lite Market near Section 149.

• Comerica Landing to become a marquee fan zone of the ballpark and adds to Tigers/Comerica fan and community engagement initiatives

The Detroit Tigers and Comerica Bank this season are unveiling the Comerica Landing, an area of Comerica Park set to enhance the overall fan experience.

Located above the right field seating, Comerica Landing provides a spectacular view and a party-like atmosphere, complete with table-top seating and cocktail tables, to create an enjoyable hangout for all ticketed fans. Engagements in the Comerica Landing start once the gates open on game days, including 90 minutes before first pitch for “Party in the Park” Fridays.

This season marks the 24th year of Tigers baseball at Comerica Park. Comerica’s corporate naming-rights partnership with the Tigers and Comerica Park, which launched in 2000 when the ballpark first opened, is one of Major League Baseball’s longest such relationships and, in 2018, the Tigers and Comerica extended the current naming-rights partnership to 2034.

‍SHOWCASING SMALL BUSINESSES
Each month throughout the season, Comerica hosts a “Small Business of the Month”, which recognizes a selected Comerica small business customer located in Michigan. The Small Business of the Month honorees – five partners overall – are hosted in a Comerica Park suite and get to meet Tigers alumni. Along with suite hospitality, the Small Business of the Month is also recognized by the Tigers on the scoreboard during the game and can promote their small business on their social channels and emails using the marks of the Tigers and Comerica Bank.

‍COMMUNITY IMPACT
The Detroit Tigers and Comerica’s relationships expands beyond the fan experience, focusing also on the impact and legacy of the community.

Annually, Comerica partners with the Detroit Tigers to present Negro Leagues Weekend, a three-day celebration of history, trailblazers and the impact African Americans had on the growth of baseball.

In 2023, the Tigers are set to host the 21^st annual Negro Leagues Weekend, presented by Comerica Bank, from July 21-23. Negro Leagues Weekend is the longest-running celebration of its kind in Major League Baseball. The weekend kicks off with the Negro Leagues Luncheon and culminates with the annual Negro Leagues Tribute Game, which first started in 1997.

In 2021, with Comerica’s support, the Tigers and Detroit Red Wings launched Game Changers, an ongoing series which honors community members who profoundly impact the lives of individuals and families across metro Detroit, with an emphasis on those supporting local children. Each honoree receives a $1,000 grant dedicated to the charity of their choice from the Tigers and Red Wings.

With the addition of this year’s honorees – February (Black History Month) and March (Women’s History Month) – 52 community leaders have been recognized for their outstanding philanthropic commitments since the program first launched in February 2021. In the past four years, Game Changers has contributed $52,000 to local nonprofits and more than 3,000 Red Wings or Tigers game tickets to their respective organizations.

• Detroit Assigns Simon Edvinsson to Grand Rapids

The Detroit Red Wings today recalled center Danny O’Regan from the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins under emergency conditions. Additionally, the Red Wings assigned defenseman Simon Edvinsson to the Griffins.

O’Regan, 29, has spent the 2022-23 season with the Griffins and San Diego Gulls, recording 48 points (17-31-48) and 16 penalty minutes in 64 AHL games. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound center was acquired by Detroit from the Anaheim Ducks on Dec. 19, 2022 as part of a three-team deal that sent right wing Givani Smith to the Florida Panthers. O’Regan split the 2021-22 campaign between Anaheim and San Diego, tallying one assist in five appearances with the Ducks, in addition to 34 points (13-21-34) and 20 penalty minutes in 53 contests with the Gulls. Originally selected by the San Jose Sharks in the fifth round (138th overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, O’Regan has logged six points (1-5-6) in 30 NHL games with the Sharks, Buffalo Sabres and Ducks since 2016-17. He has also compiled 303 points (113-190-303) and 132 penalty minutes in 398 AHL games with the San Jose Barracuda, Rochester Americans, Hartford Wolf Pack, Henderson Silver Knights, Gulls and Griffins. In his first professional season in 2016-17, O’Regan led all AHL rookies with 58 points (23-35-58) in 63 games and represented the Barracuda at the 2017 AHL All-Star Classic. In recognition of his efforts, O’Regan was named to the AHL All-Rookie Team and was the recipient of the Dudley “Red” Garrett Award as the AHL’s most outstanding rookie.

Prior to turning professional, O’Regan played four seasons at Boston University, totaling 154 points (66-88-154), a plus-28 rating and 72 penalty minutes in 154 games from 2012-16. He was named a Hockey East First-Team All-Star and NCAA East Second All-American Team selection after pacing the Terriers in goals (17), assists (27) and points (44) in 39 contests during his senior year. O’Regan was also a Hockey East Second-Team All-Star and NCAA Tournament All-Regional Team selection as a junior after helping the Terriers win the Hockey East championship before clinching a berth in the 2015 NCAA Division I championship game. He was also selected to the 2012-13 Hockey East All-Rookie Team after becoming the first freshman in program history to lead the team in points since Tony Amonte in 1989-90. Before starting his collegiate career, O’Regan skated with the U.S. National Team Development Program in 2011-12. A native of Berlin, Germany, O’Regan has represented the United States on the international stage, netting one goal in four appearances at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship. O’Regan earned a gold medal with Team USA at the 2012 IIHF World Under-18 Championship, notching four points (1-3-4) in six games. He also competed at the 2011 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament, recording five points (2-3-5) in four games.

Edvinsson, 20, skated in nine games with the Red Wings this season, recording two goals, 12 penalty minutes, 11 hits and eight blocks in 17:04 average time on ice. The 6-foot-6, 209-pound blueliner made his NHL debut on March 18 vs. Colorado and scored his first career NHL goal 38 seconds into regulation on March 23 vs. St. Louis. Edvinsson began the 2022-23 season with the Griffins and leads the team’s defensemen with 27 points (5-22-27) and 50 penalty minutes in 51 games. Edvinsson arrived in North America after skating with Frolunda HC of the Swedish Hockey League during the 2021-22 campaign, logging 19 points (2-17-19), a plus-13 rating and 18 penalty minutes in 19:42 average time on ice in 44 regular-season games, in addition to two assists in five postseason contests. His 17 assists were the most in league history by a defenseman 19 years of age or younger, while his 19 points were the fourth-most ever recorded by a defenseman 19 years of age or younger – trailing only Victor Hedman (21 points, 2008-09), Rasmus Dahlin (20 points, 2017-18) and Tomas Jonsson (20 points, 1978-79).

Selected by the Red Wings in the first round (sixth overall) of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, Edvinsson saw time in three different leagues during the 2020-21 season, notching six points (1-5-6), a plus-four rating and 10 penalty minutes in 14 games with Frolunda’s under-20 squad. He then made his professional debut by skating in 14 games with Vasteras IK in the HockeyAllsvenskan, collecting five assists in Sweden’s second tier before adding one assist in 10 appearances with Frolunda’s SHL team. Edvinsson began developing in Frolunda’s system in 2018-19, accumulating 12 points (1-11-12) in 22 games with the under-20 team, 25 points (6-19-25) in 34 games with the under-18 squad and 36 points (10-26-36) in 24 games at the under-16 level. The Kungsbacka, Sweden, native helped his country win a bronze medal as an alternate captain at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship, collecting two points (1-1-2) in six games. He also tallied three points (1-2-3) in two appearances when the tournament was originally scheduled before it was cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns. Edvinsson won a bronze medal with Sweden at the 2021 IIHF World Under-18 Championship, registering four points (1-3-4) in seven contests. He also represented his country at the 2019 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, dishing out five assists in five games.
